Following on from the "official album of the year, 2017" (Dead: Unearthed), the dim spirits assemble for The Holocene's j-horror opus: Yūrei.

An homage to traditional Japanese ghost stories, Yūrei deftly hypnotises with 15 suites of Kaidan terror, each track replete with a reassuring wink to the listener.

The Holocene once again shows his prowess as a master of sonic collage. Yūrei is made 100% using samples direct from samplers to old cassettes on a 4-track. Samplese from VHS idents / Japanese horror movies / various heavy metal and rock vinyl / samples taken from 1970s and 80s Japanese fusion jazz, funk and city pop.

Unsettling, insidious, beautiful.
